Even Fashion Stylists have off days.
I just want to be real with you today. I mean in a world of Pinterest, fashion bloggers galore with the perfect hot off the runway outfits, hair, instastories & contouring I thought you could use a dose of realness to relate to. Here it is. Somedays it is way easier for me to dress someone else than myself. Yep I said it. It's so easy for me to get tunnel vision and get stuck in my head. My bedroom floor indeed turns into a sea of clothes that I don't want to wear just like yours does every now and then. Especially because the way you see yourself can be so far off some days.
I mean it's always easier to give advice than take it yourself right? You and I both know that all too well if we are honest with ourselves.
For the past few months I have been drooling over the suede thigh high boots all over Pinterest. Love me a new shoe style ESPECIALLY a boot. Hello Autumn and pumpkin and apple and candles and blankets and all the basic things. No shame. And I mean a thigh high boot is like a legging and a boot in one! What could be better?!? Two of my favorite things in one! It's not like a tank/cardigan combo or those tops with the mock turtleneck sewed in that Stewart wears on Big Bang Theory... this is indeed a fabulous combination! Thank you 70's fashion for coming around full circle again. As I played around with what to wear with these marvelous boots though, I was struggling to find that perfect balance of casual style vs. looking like I was about to head to the club and break it down, which I do love dancing the night away but I also wanted to look appropriate for the atmosphere. It's not that I don't know what to wear with the boots... because I do...I mean I do it for a living... Everyday- 8 hours a day notes after notes of advice to others etc. I follow all the latest trends, read the blogs even hang out with Who What Wear and Vogue on occasion... That is on Instagram or the local Heinen's grocery store check out line. I'm still waiting for their new office to open in Cleveland. Hey a girl can dream.
Anywho, as I started playing with styles I started to get a tad worried about how I'd come across when I wore these boots as it is a tad easy to give off let's just say not the vibe I was looking for. Aka Fashion Faux Pas instead of seasoned stylist.
I love trying new things, new styles but I too sometimes get hesitant to rock it especially since I don't exactly live in the fashion capital of the world where I already often look way over-dressed on a daily basis. But that's just who I am. As I explained to a friend the other day that within my personal style I struggle to dress down and enjoy casual styles. They looked at me like I was crazy as they should. Now don't get me wrong I can tell you ALL day long how to rock those joggers and make them more casual or edgy or girly or boho whatever your style is, but casual is just not my style when I really want it to be sometimes. Just like casual is not my style you need to remember that if dressing up is not yours, embrace that. You can look stylish and fashionable with any look that is you, I promise.
I LOVE to take my sister shopping with me when I get in a rut or when we need someone to confide in, like as to why no one sells a basic black cardigan when I need one or why the cashiers always ask if you found everything ok when actuality they wouldn't know what to do if you said no. When you find that person who will give you their honest opinion while trying clothes on while out shopping and not just appease you, keep them and never let go. Thankfully she's my sister so she's stuck with me. A second opinion never hurt anyone. AND remember that even fashion stylists have their off days. So don't get discouraged when you have one. Don't give up! Just take a deep breath and put on those boots. Oh and I did end up wearing those boots that day and a few compliments and dirty looks later I'm glad I did. WHAT TRENDS/STYLES HAVE YOU BEEN DYING TO TRY???
Boots, beats & jams,

I went raspberry picking the other week and realized even raspberry bushes are prickly. Crazy how a lot of the best things in nature have thorns or things to keep you away; whether it's roses, gorgeous wild flowers, or raspberries you often have to get pricked to enjoy the beauty or deliciousness of life.
STORY TIME: Skip ahead to the #'s if you don't like stories.
My sophomore year of college I went to go for a few mile run per usual after being sick all winter and barely made it back to my couch without passing out after running maybe a 1/16th of a mile. That was when everything started. The crazy symptoms. You name it I probably had it. Test after test, appointment after appointment, non-existent diagnosis after more non-existent answers. I was tired, worn out and still could barely get up in the morning. The weight gain was so rapid it didn't matter what I ate or didn't eat, working out or not working out. My body was trying to tell me something and I did not speak its language. Fast forward 6 years later after exhausting all my options, I was desperate willing to try anything to not feel like an exhausted inflamed 80-year-old who was in her first trimester of pregnancy... my body was revolting.
Today mark's one year of finding out what the issue was this whole time!!! Can I get a hallelujah? All my issues were caused by food. The very thing I thought was making me healthier was betraying me. I'm much lighter today thankfully but what matters most is that I can get out of bed in the morning, and not be consumed by sickness most days not the scale. Its still a balancing act, playing with my diet/exercise week by week to keep the inflammation and residual symptoms away but I am a new person closer to reaching my goals everyday. I feel alive again. But whether its cutting-out foods that everyone else loves, acupuncture, weird doctors or unique work outs don't be afraid to try something new that is not the norm, do what works for you! Never in a billion years would I find myself in the position I am today but it's what works for me. My reminder to you today is...
So whether you're not feeling great today or had a rough week or year, whether you're not at that percentage of body fat you want, defined muscles or that dream job. The only person you should be competing with is who you were yesterday. Take a day to appreciate how far you've come and then keep pushing through the uncertainty, difficulty, and norm to push on because in the end its the consistency of everyday habits that will give you the results you desire!
Peace, Love & Shoes... because who doesn't love shoes?
